I'm on microgestin(sp?) and 6 days after I started taking the pill[for the first time, I've never been on birth control before] my period started. It started when it was due to but I think I was lead to believe that the pill would cause it to not start until I got to the last week of pills. This is the fifth day of my period and I'm bleeding a bit more than I normally would after five days. Is this caused by starting the birth control? I'm a bit worried because in February I went to the doctor because my period was lasting longer than normal and it was because of an ectopic pregnancy.

Due to your past experience in February, I would recommend visiting your doctor again for this but - It can take a month or two for the pills to adjust your cycle, depending on the dose/level of hormones. Many women will need to try a few difference "pills" before finding the correct one for her.

For now, I would recommend continuing your pills and they should work with your body to regulate your cycle - use extra protection during sex until you're sure everything is working.

Again, because of your past events, double check with your doctor or sexual health center.

Hope this helps.
