Where did my ovary go?

Does anyone know why an ovary could not be seen on an ultrasound? I had an ultrasound a year ago and my left ovary was there. I had another ultrasound this week and it's not there now. They can see the fallopian tube but not the ovary.

They hide or can become hidden. Ultrasounds are also only as good as the person using them. My uterus was sitting backwards for most of my life and after surgery discovered this, I had several ultrasound persons tell me "Who told you that, it is fine." At one point my uterus sat on top of my ovaries and they couldn't see them with an abdominal or internal ultrasound.

Thank you waterwoman! I appreciate the insight! I will probably ask for another one just to be sure. I'm having a lot of pain due to the cysts that are there and I don't want to have it removed.

Oops, I meant to say that I am having the pain in the ovary that they can see.
