Weight Lifting for Fitness

“I don’t want to look like Arnold Schwarzewnegger!” Even if he isn’t hard to look at, generally speaking women don’t want huge muscles. And the truth of the matter is that as women, we’re not wired to be able to build muscle like a man. Men have larger portions of testosterone which ensures their muscle building capabilities, while we are endowed with larger portions of estrogen to enable us to nurse our babies, have soft curves and smaller, more delicate muscles.

“I bulk up fast so I don’t want to lift weights.” Indeed, some of us do have a tendency to put on muscle quickly, however if we lose fat at the same time, then our muscles rise to the surface and our body size is actually smaller. Building muscle under fat can make you look larger. The good thing is that muscle uses fat as energy, so the more you have, the better your body utilizes the fat it has stored.

Balance your workout

A well-balanced workout that includes cardio fitness, weight training, stretching and mind/body strengthening can give you the look you are after. What woman doesn’t want a toned, strong body, healthy and fit? It all comes with hard work though. It isn’t magic, as much as we’d like it to be.

It begins with a decision to have a healthy lifestyle, and a fit body. They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. So it is with lifestyle changes – the first step is in the mind.

Then you add focus to your decision. Keep your eye on the goal and bring the choices you make into line with your decision. That means you choose a healthy diet, work out regularly and get enough sleep. The hard work and focus pays off with a vibrant, energetic life and a feminine, strong body.
